Alumni's History

Geylang Methodist Schools' (GMS) Alumni Association was founded in 1999 by Mrs Heng-Lim Gaik Kee, who is an old girl of Geylang Methodist Girls School (GMGS). When she was a principal at Geylang Methodist Primary School (GMPS), she thought about formally establishing an alumni association to gather her GMGS friends. On 26 August 1999, the Alumni Association was officially launched during the school's 75th anniversary celebration. Mrs Heng-Lim Gaik Kee was elected President after its first annual general meeting in 2000 and Ms Pang Li Kin was voted in as Vice-President. From that point, the Alumni became a key stakeholder in GMS and was an important supporter in terms of resources, fundraising and building of a united GMS community.

Li Kin later succeeded Mrs Heng as Alumni President in 2002. In a radio interview, she admitted that there were challenges including finding alumni and persuading them to join. But Li Kin made it clear that chasing numbers is not what really counts. "I want to see an alumni... who really care for their fellow alumnus and people who really care for the school and want to do something to give back."​​

In 2024, GMS Alumni Association has grown to over 200 members. Together with the schools, we celebrated Geylang Methodist Schools' 100th Anniversary. The Centennial Thanksgiving Dinner was held at Orchard Hotel Grand Ballroom and the Guest-of-Honour is Education Minister Mr Chan Chun Sing. We thank God for His goodness and faithfulness.
